#4 scarves – and neck wear in general. If anyone is a knitter there is a GREAT book of quick projects (i.e. you can wear them this season!) called Cowl Girls with all neckwear. Love this trend – even though in general I am pretty clueless about trends…

I am not fashionable, but managed to nail 2-7 with my current closet. Although I did give myself credit for the Ugg Bailey button (my first pair and so worth it) instead of the sweater model.

And NO to cropped sweaters, even at two years post partum.

I have to say no to skinny jeans….I just can’t get used to the tight feel on my legs. Love the purse. I got one in red and have to say it is one of my favorites!

I think I have some what figured out the skinny jeans, even though I am NOT skinny! They have to be dark, you have to wear heals or boots, and the top has to balance it out.
I also love how scarves look, but I am trying to get used to them being up around my neck!

The hardest area for us is our island and kitchen table become a catch all for the newspaper, mail, and other various items that come into the house. The table get gets cleared when we have guests for dinner… otherwise we just put it/pile it up until “later”.

I have a hard time organizing my basement. I like to keep the living space nice and clean, but part of how i do that is putting stuff in the basement. Things we don’t use often go down there, but I tend to make piles instead of structure, and then I can’t find what I need.

The hardest place for me to keep organized is the kitchen counter. I have no problem keeping my stuff clean there but my husband uses it as a catch all for mail, toys, anything that has no other ‘home’. I just can’t get him to get his stuff off the counter.

The kids rooms …. stuff comes in and nothing seems to go out! It doesn’t help that they are all girls, stair stepped in age by 3 years so some of the stuff needs to be hand-me-downs but some just needs to go to the curb when they are through with it!

My dining room has become a catchall for everything–and it is our only eating area, (other than the living room). Paper clutter is huge–school papers especially. Also dealing with outgrown clothes and toys.

Because I work two jobs totally around 70-80 hours a week, everything piles up. I do laundry and will get through about 1/3 to 1/2 of it put away and then i have to go so laundry piles up.

My living room – it’s the first room we enter in our home and is the “catch all” for everything!

It’s not so much an area as it is the kids’ stuff. From their school stuff to their fun stuff to the awards and certificates to the “gifts” they get for fundraising. It comes in far faster than I get things out!

I must say our BATHROOM is toughest to keep organized; four people, one room. I could paint a picture but…it wouldn’t be pretty! LOL

I clean clutter off of my kitchen counter and table, and 5 minutes later, you can’t see any clear surface! Aaaaahhhhh!

I have several hot spots that seem to grow clutter in my house. One of the worst is my desk… sigh… I blame it on not having enough storage space. But whatever the reason – my desk always has piles of stuff threatening to fall over – or be pulled over by my kiddos. Some day I hope to get a handle on it!!

Since we don’t have a room to use as an “office,” it is hard to manage bills, papers, computer stuff, etc.

I live in a small apartment, and I have a back unused bedroom, with a walk in closet that have become store room. I just feel overwhelmed by it all and can’t wrap my mind around getting it organized.

Firstly, thank you for this wonderful opportunity! You are a fabulous inspiration! I’m not sure this qualifies as a place; No matter how much I purge and organize, I always seem to have a “last pile of stuff” in my bedroom and my living room…

I SOOOO need this! My apartment is tiny, so the entire thing is hard for me to organize.

Bedrooms are the hardest for our family to organize. Mine has remained a mess since my mother occupied it before her death in 2004. It’s a mixture of her stuff and ours. I’m at a loss on where to start. It’s the same the other bedrooms…kids clothes, toys, out of season items, blankets, etc.

We moved in when I was almost due to deliver my son, now five, and we have a whole bedroom stacked with things we never unpacked after the move and things we don’t have a spot for. We have also added a daughter who is now three. There is just too much stuff! When I get one spot organized, it falls apart in three months.

I have yet to feel that this is totally my home and it has never been totally organized.

You just can’t imagine how desperately I NEED this book! I used to be so well organized, but somewhere along the way I became overwhelmed and lost it! I guess the worst is all the paper clutter- basically any flat surface is covered with it! Thanks for the chance.

Paper is my biggest problem. Even after standing over a garbage container to sort mail, I still have problems with other kinds of paper. Paper at the computer workstation seems to be the next worse place.

Our bedroom is by far the most cluttered place in the house, because it has become the dumping ground for mail, important papers, clean and dirty clothes, etc. When we need to put things down somewhere out of reach (so the kids can’t get it) or out of sight (we usually keep our door closed), it ends up in our room.

I have to isolate ONE area that is my worst for organization? My children’s rooms are the least organized even though we have purchased shelving and organizers – the problem is TOO much stuff, my boys collect Star Wars, and the collection is huge. We’re working on a room just for this collection, but it’s slow going. I’ve started a blog to try to keep myself motivated and accountable for the clutter in my life. I need this book. Clutter prevents me from enjoying the activities that keep a mom sane, I spend too much time decluttering and tidying, than enjoying life.

My worst clutter area is the kitchen/living room (we have an open space). If there is a bit of counter area, coffee table area, end table area, there is something on it. It drives me CRAZY. Our home office is the most difficult area for me. I get it cleaned up and the husband trashes it again. Plus, he takes care of the bills and I don’t understand his filing system. Because it’s non-existent.

The hardest area for me is my master bedroom. I always piles and piles of stuff on the floor, on my dresser, on my night stand, and in my walk in closet. My husband gets so annoyed with me.

I need to de-clutter ever aspect of my life. Starting with my home. The entire house is filled with clutter, it was never this way, everything was somewhat organized. I have 4 children so it is never clutter free or organized. But when I became ill. My world turned upside down, within that time I faced alot of challenges, and now I am trying to pick up the pieces. I have learned it’s easy to fall but extremely difficult to pick yourself back up!!! I am desperate to find a solution.

I would say the bedroom, which seems to stay in a constant state of disarray, but that can be easily rectified. For me keeping our laundry on schedule and clothing sorted and away is the biggest organizing issue I have.

The hardest area for my to keep de-cluttered is my closet. It’s a (small) walk-on one. When I don’t know where to put something, I put it there. About twice a year, I wind up having to spend an entire afternoon removing everything and de-cluttering it.

I am a single mom of an almost 4 year old. Need I say more? I have always had a clutter issue, and it has always caused me to feel stress and shame. I am usually able to keep up a semblance of order in my living room, but the other rooms are really a problem. So much so that I am usually discouraged from getting in there in clearing becasue it is ‘too hard’. When I do attack it, I am always surprised how it wasn’t so bad, and promise myself to never let it get out of hand again. Over and over. I would really like to be a grown up that is able to manage my stuff. I am tired of being ashamed.

Our computer room is the end-all location for the random stuff that makes its way into the house.

Definitely keeping my work ‘clutter’ (marking, books, paperwork etc) separate from my home ‘clutter’ – I really like the idea of having a bedroom just for sleeping, but sure enough my laptop sneaks in, then some marking, then before I know it my bedroom is full of work things! I homeschool my kids and I have a school room that becomes such a disaster. Papers, books and crafts. I need to get this better organized. Love reading all the other comments here! My hate spot is my kids bedrooms. My husband is a 3rd generation hoarder – and I mean hoarder lol! So my kids have grown up feeling some tension there between my husband and I. I saw very early on that they were quickly following in his little habit lol, and they have now started taking things to their room and hiding them so that I wont throw them out! Makes for an interesting spring cleaning experience lol!

Papers on the kitchen surfaces! Most of it is kids’ artwork, but alos just random things that need to be dealt with.

my study room, where most work is done and all the documents and papers are shrewn around. the other is my skincare/makeup vanity. going through so many bottles and boxes and containers and brushes daily in a rush in the mornings make it difficult to keep the area clean and neat.

i think i will feel better about my life in general if i can just get down to organising these two areas.

My whole house needs to be organized. I have trouble finding a place to put things and when I need something I have to search for it. Having 2 boys who have so many activities after school and me working 2 jobs and a husband who has a weird work schedule there isn’t enough time in a day for me to try and organize anything in my house. I need this book to help me become more organized and be able to enjoy life.

I have the hardest time organizing incoming mail, magazines, and paper clutter. It always seems to pile up!

My area would be the dining room. Everything gets dropped off onto the table.

The hardest thing for me to organize is my boys’ clothes… we’re living in a temporary location and so they both share one (small) dresser and one closet. I just don’t know how to make it work for this interim time!

My pantry – what a disaster area! Stuff builds up toward the door until we can’t close it, piled up on the floor as well as the shelves. Things sit in the far back until they expire because I forget I have them. I have four kids and do regular Costco runs, but how to organize those large quantities (which we do go through) along with all the other items I get from grocery stores…? I need a complete makeover! And a plan for *keeping* it that way.

Around my side of the bed. {sigh} I often work on papers on our bed and then once we’re tired and ready for bed, all of my papers/projects don’t make it back to their real homes, they only make it to the floor.

The hardest area for me to organize is my kitchen. I can’t figure out how to best organize all of the food in the cabinets. Unfortunately I live in an apartment and have a tiny kitchen without a pantry.

Our living area is the worse as it’s our main go to place to spend our time so most stuff gets dropped in here, followed by the kitchen as husband loves to cook but not so much the cleaning up after and we have too many utensils & pots for a tiny kitchen, then the bedroom where after a hard day everything gets thrown everwhere before bed.

Gosh! I don’t think I can narrow it down to just one area. Every room and the basement seems to be filled to capacity! I tell my husband that we’ve outgrown this house and he just shakes his head. I know I need to scale down and get rid of a ton of stuff. Most of it is just stuff that we don’t use or need! I found this site because I am starting a mission to clean out this house so we can have more liveable space and was looking for help on how to do it. I’ve already found some answers. Now, where to start?

paper. It’s everywhere. Constantly coming into the house from various places. I cam sort it but can’t seem to get it filed.

after 10 yrs in the same house I think my whole house needs an overhaul! But more specifically, paper clutter! I could probably build another bedroom just from the trees saved if I could get it under control!

I would have to say my paperwork. I have piles everywhere and 2 file cabinets. The next area is basement which consists of workout room, craft room and tons of boxes filled with tons of different stuff. I also would like to organize all our books!

My office/craft room is the hardest place for me to keep cleaned and organized. Not only is this room prone to clutter due to all the little pieces need for both of its function, its also at the very back of the house. This lends it to being out of sight out of mind and I find myself filling it with all the things that have no home because the public never sees this room.

The hardest for me to organize is my bedroom because I am never there except to sleep and I dump everything in there so the rest of the house will look clean!

The most difficult area for me to keep organized is those “hot spots” where things seem to land when walking in the door or someone puts there because they are going to get to it soon.

My biggest clutter problem is my foyer. We have school supplies, bookcases, shoes, and winter ware out there. It has become a drop all as you enter the door. My basement is a joke also. Out of sight out of mind.

Paper filing… I’ve got it sorted. The to act on pile, the shred pile, the to be filed pile. The to be filed pile gets larger and larger… until it falls over and then I must do something about it. Maybe the problem isn’t the pile but where I am supposed to file it… because that space is no where near where I sort it.

Really and truly it is my whole house. But the biggest area is the entryway.

The quick answer for me would be the whole house. It seems like we are NEVER able to get a room clean and then keep it clean. A more accurate answer would be the bedroom. We always have hampers full of dirty clothes and baskets full of clean clothes that never seem to get put away before w have to wear them.

The hardest spot for me is the multi-purpose basement….the office desk buired under paper, the craft table buried with supplies, the guest bed covered with school stuff that needs to be organized. We can’t have overnight company unless they like couches for beds.

Well having 5 kids and a hubbie I guess every where is cluttered. I was checking out your book at a book store and would love to have my own copy. I have a hard time getting rid of things and you have some great techniques. Either way it is a great book and will help the lucky winners.

I would have to say the basement… Our school room is down there, a play area, laundry and storage. Things seem to get “dumped” down there when they are out of place upstairs. I am really wanting to de-clutter the basement, including books, which is the hardest for me.

“My” areas – it’s easy to declutter everyone else’s stuff but when it comes to my stuff, EVERYTHING has sentimental value apparently. I have serious pack-rat issues.

My office. I have paper everywhere, recipes, interesting articles, etc. I have tried to use binders, but them I run out of room for them. I tried keeping stuff on the comouter, but I have one crash last year and everything went with it.

We’ve got a spare bedroom, which turns into the place to put random junk. Definitely a problem, especially since it’s filling up. Yikes.

The hardest area for me is the laundry room. It is right when we come in from the garage and we put mail etc on the counter and it gets so cluttered. I hate it and need help.

hmmm, pick just one…then I pick my office, ugh, just the thought of it is depressing. Really need to tackle it but not sure how to REALLY solve the problem. There have been “fixes” but they haven’t lasted. Need this book!

The back of our couch looks like we’re trying to convert it into an office. Oh, and the laundry room looks like a war zone. And did I mention that our bedroom is (evidently) doubling as a storage unit? Yeah…I could definitely use some help

I would have to say my whole house. The garage is filled mostly with stuff needing to be dealt with, I have stuff on stuff on stuff. Walking through is like an obstacle course most of the time. There are UFPs (un-finished projects [not just craft projects]) everywhere you look and it is not just me, it is the husband and the kids too.

Does “everywhere” count? Any area that has a flat surface is the hardest for us to keep organized.

It’s a toss up between my scrap room and the mudroom where all the recycling, shoes & jackets are kept.

I’m a fairly new mom (8 months old!) and I was always a messy person. I was just starting to really get a handle on things when my daughter was born…and now it’s really bad. I need help, for sure. I feel like I’m failing -to an extent- at being a good wife & mother. I have to get a handle on things before my daughter is old enough to learn my bad habits & ….before I have another baby! Oh my!

It’s definitely my “BEDROOM”, My son (7) and I live with my mom and grandmother in her home. I’ve had to squeeze the majority of our lives into my bedroom, it’s packed like a storage unit and the remainder is stuck in the garage. I need some serious helpful ideas to become clutter free. My coffee table. Because it’s not just a coffee table; it’s a desk, a dining table, a mail drop, and the brain center of my home. I do everything there, probably so I can watch DVR’ed episodes of Jersey Shore while I’m doing it. (So shameful. Look away.)

My nemesis is PAPER! I seem to accumulate paper on a daily basis…bills, ideas, receipts, patterns, tutorials, lists…. It just never seems to get any smaller.

my entire house! I work, take care of elderly family members, and I am rasing my two daughters. So organizing the house falls by the way side but creates so many troubles down the road.

I really need to organize my life. I live overseas, have four children, suffer from MS and work part time. I feel I am juggling a lot in my life, and I have little or no time to devote to the organizing of my closet, my junk drawer(s),and all the unsolicited clutter that arrives in our lives.
