The following post is from Becky of Organizing Made Fun:
Every year, Christmas can be such a blissful time for the family. But, it can also be a daunting task to fit everything in that inevitably comes up during the season, too.
Here are five ways that you can enjoy the season and keep organized while doing it.
1. Clear out what you don’t need.
While you’re putting up your Christmas decorations, go through a closet, get rid of unneeded clutter.
This is the best time because you can donate old Christmas decorations and any other items from around the house.Kids can clear out toys that they no longer play with, have outgrown, are broken, or just don’t need.
2. Label boxes and take pictures of contents BEFORE taking them out.
If you haven’t done so already, take a picture of the contents in each of your Christmas boxes BEFORE pulling out all the ornaments and items. It will make it much easier to put away when you print up a picture and see how you fit everything in there and which items go in which box.
3. Print up a list of what gifts you need and for whom.
Stay on budget and keep track of what gifts you plan to buy for your loved ones. Use a gift list printable like THIS one to help you keep track of who you need to purchase gifts for, how much you plan to spend, and when you get them wrapped and ready to go.
4. Schedule and plan.
Make sure you write down all the events and places you will be going to for Christmas parties in advanced and RSVP well in advance, so there is less chance of conflict. Plan out when you will be shopping and schedule time to wrap all those gifts. Get ready for your overnight guests that will be coming soon — if you need to get one of your children’s bedrooms ready for the guest room, go HERE for ideas on how to do that quickly. Use color coding on your family calendar to keep each track of each member’s place they need to be and times to be there–this is especially helpful if you have teenagers or kids involved in many activities.
5. Get your kids to help.
Whenever possible, have your kids help you out. Don’t be afraid to let the kids decorate the Christmas tree the way they like it, with some guidance from mom and dad for littler ones. Give them an area to decorate and let them have fun doing it. It doesn’t have to be perfect and it helps you out the older they get and the more you can give them to do.
Christmas can be a crazy time. Don’t let it become even crazier by putting off things and not getting yourself organized before everything happens.
