Summer Camp Planner: Questions to Ask + Online Resources

by Mandi on April 8, 2011

I’m working with Cozi.com on a new series on summer planning (yep, it’s April already…summer isn’t that far away!). The first post in the series is about finding a summer camp:

Summer camp is the highlight of the summer for many kids, with a chance to just play, learn new things, meet new friends and spread their wings a bit.

Although summer’s still a couple of months away, the time to plan for summer camp is now, so that you’ll have plenty of time to make a decision on which camp is best for your child and register before spaces fill up.

Get out the summer calendar and start planning with this list of questions to ask and resources for finding a summer camp.

I have a few concrete goals for 2012:

We are working on a partial redesign of Life…Your Way to make content more accessible and easier to find. That and adding some additional content areas are at the top of my list.

I will be cutting back some of my consulting and VA work to focus more on Life…Your Way and Jungle Deals & Steals as well.

Personally, my goal is to finish our homeschool year by the end of May, and tied in with that, to really find a better rhythm for our homeschool day — by setting aside more time so we’re not rushing, and planning out 6 weeks in advance so I’m not discombobulated when we sit down to do school!

Financially, we’re making strides in sticking with a more detailed and tighter budget to meet some larger financial goals. We haven’t done it perfectly, but it’s becoming second nature, and I think Sean and I are both enjoying having a clearer picture of our monthly finances.

I think that’s it for me!

Looking forward to see what changes you have up your sleeve for Life …Your Way, Mandi! I just love your site.  Homeschooling is something I’m considering for next fall as my youngest enters 3rd grade.  I really think she’d benefit more from a customized day rather than the rigidity of traditional school.

I’m inspired by your commitment to a tighter budget.  My husband and I are trying to do the same.

Many thanks for doing such an awesome job on your website here. I just love it. New Year blessings to you!

last year mine was to floss.  It didn’t last.  This year it’s to learn to say “no”.  Sounds really nice, huh?  I commit to way too much and end up running myself into the ground.  I don’t eat right or get enough rest because of all I commit too.  My goal is to focus on my health and kids, even if that means spending more time with them and getting more rest!  :)

I hate flossing. Just am not sure why. Anyway, I finally found (more) success by flossing in the morning instead of at night. At night, I can barely motivate myself to brush my teeth, but in the morning I have a lot more motivation. Plus, I use the flossers, not the roll. Much easier. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than nothing! HTH!

I haven’t been a huge fan of flossing (or brushing) ever single I had bad nausea during pregnancy. Makes me gag! =p

Instead of thinking of it as saying no to certain thing, think of it as saying yes to other things that are more important to you…higher on your list of priorities.

Resolutions…Where to start?  I’m going to forget all past years!!!!
Start Fresh, right.   I will write my goals down in a special book so I can see and check in.  I will finish all the projects I have left undone that is sewing, quilting and craft projects.  I will also eat more vegetables.  I will keep in touch, more, with my children.   And learn how to facebook, twitter and Maybe   Blog.  !!!!!

I try to look at my list of goals throughout the year to remind myself what I’m working on. At the start of a new year I adjust some of the goals, take some off the list, add some new ones. I’m trying harder to find accountability partners to help me stick with the resolutions.I think I became very overwhelmed this year with everything I wanted to do. While I think most of them were attainable goals, I don’t think I really took too much time to plan through and manage my time well enough to complete some of the goals.

  • Adriana

I’ve never really done New Year’s Resolutions, but I am working on writing obtainable specific goals for 2012.

    I have three so far:

    1) Pay off my car.
    2) Run a marathon.
    3) Read the Bible.

I have yet to break them up into smaller, bite-sized goals, but I’m thinking menu-planning, eating more home-cooked meals, budgeting better, running three days a week, etc. should help with both of the first goals. I may even start a food/exercise/diy blog, because I’ve been wanting to, and because it will hold me accountable.

I also have a lofty dream of “getting the house in order” which I’m not quite sure what that entails other than declutter, declutter, declutter. I’ll need to think about that some more.

My husband and I have an annual tradition of writing our goals on a small piece of paper (or index card) and exchanging them over dinner on New Year’s Eve.  There are always goals for ourselves and then at least one “area of improvement” goal for the other.  It’s a tradition that will continue tomorrow night and I’m always so excited to write down my resolutions and stick to them.  I’m goal and task oriented so writing down a checklist I can return to throughout the year and having a hubby hold me accountable is what I love.

I haven’t written my list yet but it will definitely include working on my fluency in Spanish, reading the Bible every morning and eating healthier.  And to filter every word before it leaves my mouth asking myself these three questions: Are you judging? Is it being said with love?  Is it being handled with grace?Wow, I wrote a book. Sorry about that.  Maybe I should add to my list rambling less…  Happy New Year!

Love your tradition of exchanging goals with your hubby over dinner.  My dh and I have our anniversary coming up on Wednesday, and I think this would be something good for us to do then!
