There are some great posts in the archives of Life Your Way that don’t get much attention anymore. This week, I’ll be sharing some of my favorites. Whether you’ve been around since the beginning or are a new reader, I think you’ll enjoy them!

Well, we won’t be folding any towel monkeys today, but I am sharing my tips for folding common household linens like towels and fitted sheets in today’s vlog.

(If you’re reading this post by email or in a feed reader, you may need to click through to see the video!)

How do you fold towels and sheets?

Mandi Ehman is the founder and publisher behind Life Your Way and the co-author of All in Good Time, as well as a wife and the homeschooling mom to four beautiful girls. She lives with her family on a little slice of heaven in wild, wonderful West Virginia and loves coffee, chocolate, easy meals, beautiful things and minimalist spaces.

IF I fold towels, we’re “skinny” thirds on the fold (I usually fold in thirds and just roll them up into a tube and put them in the closet that way. Don’t tell anyone LOL)

And, that bottom sheet folding trick – wow! So clever! I can’t wait to try that next time I wash our sheets. I even called my husband over to watch the video so he could see it, too. Thank you! That has always been one of those things I’ve just never been tidy about and it has bothered me :-)

I love the idea of rolling them, Kara — that’s awesome!

Let me know how it goes with the sheet (it’s fun to practice on a crib sheet if you have one lying around anywhere!).

    “which does…. i guess….. look nicer….. if you’re picky” hahahaha

LOL, and if I was pickier, I would have rerecorded that, but I decided
natural and real was better! Ha!

You and I fold towels exactly the same way! Ha! Guess that means I’m not picky :P

And your sheet-folding trick? Ah-may-zing! LOVE it and I’m going to try it asap. Thanks Mandi!

Sometimes my mouth needs its own gatekeeper, LOL!

Let me know if the sheet trick works for you. I love practicing on crib sheets since they’re so much smaller!

Nice. Ever see how to fold a t-shirt the Japanese way? Another really cool folding trick.

Such a simple way to fold a fitted sheet! I’ve had lumpy fitted sheets all my life:)

  • Jill Foley

I fold them like your husband folds them…I used to fold them your way, until someone pointed out that when you fold them the other way (like your husband), it’s ready to hang nicely on the towel rack. It really is nice to pull the towel out and distribute them to towel racks without having to re-fold them just to hang them up.

Oh, that’s a great point, Jill! We shake ours out and hang them over a hook, so I hadn’t thought of that, but you’re right that it definitely makes it easier!

I do both the towels and sheets just like you do it. I have all the towels stacked to put into one of those canvas cubes and they fit perfect like that. We are exactly the same with the sheets too. Take them off, wash them, put them back on.

I’be seen a lot of sheet tutorials. Most fold the way you do. For whatever reason, your video clicked and I am finally proud of my fitted sheet folding skills! I also learned about putting all the sheets in the pillow case to keep them all together. I almost didn’t do it because then it doesn’t show off the nicely folded sheet! Anyway, thank you so much!

      Glad it helped!

Never fold sheets. After washing and drying they are right back on the bed (at least before nightfall!). Towels–depends on who’s doing it. I prefer in thirds. Kids–I’m happy if they are all folded the same, whatever method they chose. The linen closet shelf is big enough to take it any method used.

LOL, so true! I tend to lower my standards significantly if someone else is doing the work so that I don’t have to!

I rotate my fitted sheets so I always have one on the bed, one in the wash and one away and folded with my other linens. This is mostly because I don’t have a dryer.
I learned how to fold them from a housekeeping book by folding the corners into each other and then folding the sheet flat. Nice and neat! :)

That sounds like a great way to do it without a dryer — thanks for sharing!
